It was Ramadan the first time we visited Saadiyat Beach Club. On that occasion we arrived to the very tempting smells of a BBQ. The BBQ was part of an Iftar buffet meal so we had to wait for sunset at about 7:15. Fortunately the bar close to the sea was serving food and alcohol so we were able to get a drink before eating. Of course with Iftar is part of Ramadan so we were not allowed to take our drinks to the restaurant serving the BBQ buffet. Still it was nice to set at the bar near the sea because there was a very nice view.
The pool area also looked very nice for a time when the weather would be good for swimming.
The second time we visited we sat closer to the main restaurant and were able to choose from the pool and the restaurant menus. Frustratingly the weather was very hot so the pool looked tempting. Unfortunately we had to pay to use the pool and had not brought swimming costumes. So we made do with hiding under an umbrella because it was a shame to sit indoors. You can see the pool has loads of pool loungers.
The food was rather posh and pricey but in the end I settled on a steak sandwich for my main course. The highlight however was dessert. I opted for the Cheesecake Popsicle because it sounded interesting. Although I have to say that when my dessert first arrived I was a bit disappointed because it looked like they had simply added posh decorations to a Magnum.
Well that was still I started eating the Popsicle. The inside was actually made of Cheesecake which was then covered in a nice thick layer of chocolate. The main problem is that I was thinking of the cheesecake as ice-cream. And ice-cream has to be eaten quickly before it melts. Doh. Cheesecake does not melt. So partway through I really started to struggle. The cheesecake was rich and very tasty but I was eating it far too quickly. For me it was an interesting realisation related to the saying that “You eat with your eyes first”.
This is definitely somewhere I would go again. For me the main issue would be how close together the loungers are so I am not sure I would rush to use the pool. Having said that the food was good and the setting was very nice.
