For a while I have felt like it is time for a holiday but COVID restrictions have made that difficult.

At the start of 2020 I was anticipating at least one trip to Dubai, a trip to South Africa for Christmas and a week in Scotland. Then COVID happened. I didn’t even manage a long weekend to Cheltenham. By March 2021 I was making jokes about how exciting it was to be able to make a trip to Birmingham. Well it was the first time in nearly a year that I left Nottinghamshire.

By then the COVID numbers were dropping steadily and with vaccinations being rolled out it finally seemed realistic to try and plan a holiday. Overseas seemed too risky though. I didn’t fancy getting on a plan. Plus even if things were going well in the UK we would still need to factor in what was happening in the country we visited. Then there is the need to quarantine on return. While I can work from home my partner can’t so that limited our options.

Eventually we settled on Dorset. It seemed like there was a still a reasonable choice of holiday cottages. It was not somewhere I had really visited before and there were some options for catching up with friends and family. Also the scenery is supposed to be good so we could do plenty of walking and cycling. But to be honest for me the main thing was that I really needed a change of scene. I have spent a lot of time at home in the last year.

Typically the weather is currently very wet but we did manage to visit Chesil Beach yesterday.
